Magnificent!” Karl Stefanovic Channel 9 Today Show
Raku O’Gaia (formerly known as Soulman…) comes via Jamaica and England to life in
Australia.
A towering 6 foot 5 inches tall, he is a fluent raconteur spreading feel-good vibes in the
high energy performances that are his trademark.
Beginning in the depths of London’s Underground Subways, he honed his skills in the
volatile world of workingmen’s pubs, clubs and bars across Europe, England and
Australia. O’Gaia has become a one-of-a-kind singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, and
a classic tunesmith. His latest release is the uplifting and diverse “Freedom Songs” CD.
His dynamic groove-laden rhythms on guitar, didgeridoo, mouth-harp, slide and assorted
percussion move from toe tapping country-funk and blues, to road-ready rock’n’roll and
journey on through folksy balladeering to Caribbean style reggae all in the service of the
most positive and inspiring songs played back to back…anywhere.
He drew capacity crowds at each of his 5 Woodford performances, was a triumph at
Bluesfest and has held the stage with Archie Roach, John Butler, Xavier Rudd, Pete
Murray and other iconic Australian artists.
He has recently opened for Ash Grunwald, The Commitments and Dragon
